Presentation of the Zagreb Project to the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović. The project proposal is one of the results of a continuous collaboration between scientists from the Laboratory of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) and the Department of Engineering Mechanics of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Zagreb.
Entry on the official website of the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia
The presentation is given by PhD student Igor Tomić, Professor Katrin Beyer from EPFL and Professors Josip Atalić and Mario Urošfrom the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Zagreb.
Attending the meeting alongside President Milanović were Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy Velibor Mačkić and Assistant Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy Martina Ciglević.
The project proposal envisages a detailed research of masonry construction in aggregats in the city of Zagreb and the elaboration of reconstruction proposals within the cultural-historical ensemble with the aim of achieving a satisfactory level of structural safety and preserving the cultural-historical value of buildings.
Given that the behavior of structures within aggregates due to seismic activity is more difficult to predict, this project will contribute to improving the level of knowledge about the behavior of structures within aggregates. In addition, tools will be developed for engineers that are applicable in practice: from the development of amendments to Eurocode 8 to make the regulation applicable to building aggregats, through research into the differences between free-standing buildings and aggregates construction to the development of vulnerability index applicable to central Zagreb.
