The presentation is given by PhD student Igor Tomić. Professor Katrin Beyer from EPFL and Professors Josip Atalić, Mario Uroš and Marta Šavor-Novak from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Zagreb participated in the discussion and further elaboration of the project.
Present at the presentation of the project by the Ministry of Culture were: the Minister of Culture and Media Dr. Nina Obuljen Koržinek, the Director of the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Tomislav Petrinec, the Head of the Sector for Conservation Departments and Inspection Tatjana Lolić, the Head of the Sector for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Mirna Sabljak, the Acting Melinda Trbojević, Head of the Sector for Risk Management and Implementation of the Cultural Heritage Protection Programme, Eva Radolović, Head of the Sector for Risk Management and Preparation and Implementation of the Cultural Heritage Protection Programme, Petra Smajić, Senior Expert Advisor and Aljoša Špaleta, Senior Expert Advisor.

The project proposal envisages a detailed research of masonry construction in blocks characteristic of the city of Zagreb and the elaboration of reconstruction proposals within the cultural-historical ensemble with the aim of achieving a satisfactory level of structural safety and preserving the cultural-historical value of buildings.
Given that the behavior of structures within blocks due to seismic activity is more difficult to predict, this project will contribute to improving the level of knowledge about the behavior of structures within city blocks. In addition, tools will be developed for engineers that are applicable in practice: from the development of amendments to Eurocode 8 to make the regulation applicable to building blocks, through research into the differences between free-standing buildings and block construction to the development of vulnerability index applicable to central Zagreb.
